Η γη όπου επιβιώνουν τα αρχαία Ελληνικά

Ανακαλύφθηκε απομονωμένη κοινότητα κοντά στις ακτές της Μαύρης Θάλασσας,

στη βορειοανατολική Τουρκία, η οποία χρησιμοποιεί μια Ελληνική διάλεκτο που μοιάζει εξαιρετικά με την "νεκρή"... γλώσσα της αρχαίας Ελλάδας.
Περίπου 5.000 άνθρωποι μιλούν μία διάλεκτο η οποία, σύμφωνα με γλωσσολόγους, είναι η πλησιέστερη ζωντανή γλώσσα στα αρχαία ελληνικά  και θα μπορούσε να παρέχει μοναδικά συμπεράσματα για τη γλώσσα του Σωκράτη και του Πλάτωνα, καθώς και το πώς αυτή εξελίχθηκε.

Η κοινότητα ζει σε ένα σύμπλεγμα χωριών κοντά στην τουρκική πλέον πόλη της Τραπεζούντας, όπου βρισκόταν κάποτε, στην αρχαία περιοχή του Πόντου, μια ελληνική αποικία την οποία επισκέφτηκαν, σύμφωνα με τη μυθολογία- ο Ιάσων και οι Αργοναύτες του, στη διάρκεια του επικού τους ταξιδιού από τη Θεσσαλία ως την Κολχίδα (σημερινή Γεωργία), προς αναζήτηση του χρυσόμαλλου δέρατος. Ο Πόντος επίσης ήταν το βασίλειο των μυθικών Αμαζόνων, οι οποίες έκοβαν το δεξί τους στήθος για να χειρίζονται καλύτερα το τόξο τους στη μάχη.

 
Οι γλωσσολόγοι διαπίστωσαν ότι τα Ρωμέικα, (μια από τις διαλέκτους των Ελλήνων του Πόντου), έχουν δομικές ομοιότητες με την αρχαία ελληνική που δεν παρατηρούνται σε άλλες μορφές της γλώσσας που ομιλείται σήμερα. Το λεξιλόγιο της διαλέκτου σχετίζεται επίσης με την αρχαία γλώσσα.

Η λέκτορας Λατινικής Φιλολογίας Ιωάννα Σιταρίδου, του Πανεπιστημίου του Cambridge, είπε σχετικά: "τα Ρωμέικα διατηρούν έναν εντυπωσιακό αριθμό  γραμματικών χαρακτηριστικών που προσθέτουν μια αρχαία ελληνική γεύση στη δομή της διαλέκτου, γνωρίσματα που έχουν χαθεί εντελώς από άλλα σύγχρονα ελληνικά είδη."

Σύμφωνα με την ίδια, η χρήση του απαρεμφάτου έχει χαθεί σε όλες τις άλλες ελληνικές διαλέκτους και μόνο στα Ρωμέικα έχει διατηρηθεί. Επιπλέον, έχουν βρεθεί ιδιόμορφες απαρεμφατικές συντάξεις που δεν έχουν ποτέ παρατηρηθεί ποτέ πριν - μόνον στις λατινογενείς γλώσσες υπάρχουν παράλληλες συντάξεις.

Οι κάτοικοι που μιλούν Ρωμέικα, τα οποία δεν έχουν γραπτή μορφή, παρουσιάζουν και άλλα συμπτώματα από τη γεωγραφική και πολιτιστική απομόνωση. Σπάνια παντρεύονται έξω από τη δική τους κοινότητα και παίζουν παραδοσιακή μουσική με ένα ειδικό όργανο, που ονομάζεται Κεμεντζές (kemenje) στα τουρκικά και τα Ρωμέικα, ή ποντιακή λύρα, όπως την αποκαλούμε στα ελληνικά, είπε η Δρ Σιταρίδου. "Έναν άντρα ξέρω μόνο να έχει παντρευτεί έξω από το χωριό του", είπε.

Η μουσική είναι ευδιάκριτη και δεν μπορεί να μπερδευτεί με κάτι άλλο. Ξεκάθαρα, συναντάται μόνο σε όσους μιλούν τη Ρωμέικη διάλεκτο.

Μια πιθανότητα είναι ότι οι ομιλητές αυτής της διαλέκτου είναι οι απευθείας απόγονοι των αρχαίων Ελλήνων που ζούσαν κατά μήκος των ακτών της Μαύρης Θάλασσας πριν από τον 6ο ή 7ο αιώνα π.Χ., όταν και αποικίστηκε αρχικά η περιοχή. Είναι επίσης πιθανό να είναι απόγονοι αυτόχθονων πληθυσμών ή μίας φυλής που μετανάστευσε, οι οποίοι αναγκάστηκαν να μιλούν τη γλώσσα των αρχαίων Ελλήνων αποικιοκρατών.

Οι κάτοικοι της συγκεκριμένης περιοχής είναι ευσεβείς μουσουλμάνοι, γι΄ αυτό και είχαν το δικαίωμα να παραμείνουν στην Τουρκία μετά την εφαρμογή της Συνθήκης της Λωζάνης του 1923, όταν περίπου δύο εκατομμύρια χριστιανοί και μουσουλμάνοι ανταλλάχθηκαν μεταξύ Ελλάδας και Τουρκίας. Τα αλλεπάλληλα μεταναστευτικά κύματα, η κυρίαρχη επιρροή της τουρκόφωνης πλειοψηφίας, και η παντελής απουσία της Ρωμέικης διαλέκτου από το δημόσιο στίβο, έχουν προσθέσει τώρα τα Ρωμέικα στον κατάλογο των πλέον απειλούμενων με εξαφάνιση γλωσσών του κόσμου.

Με μόνο 5.000 ομιλητές εναπομείναντες στην περιοχή, γρήγορα τα Ρωμέικα θα μπορούσαν να έχουν καταστεί μια κληρονομημένη γλώσσα, αντί να αποτελούν μια ζωντανή λαϊκή γλώσσα. Με το θάνατό της θα χάναμε μια ανεπανάληπτη ευκαιρία να ξεκλειδώσουμε το πώς εξελίχθηκε η ελληνική γλώσσα. "Φανταστείτε να μπορούσαμε να μιλήσουμε με άτομα των οποίων η γραμματική είναι πιο κοντά στην γλώσσα του παρελθόντος. Όχι μόνο θα μπορούσαμε να χαρτογραφήσουμε μια νέα γραμματική της σύγχρονης διαλέκτου, αλλά θα μπορούσαμε να καταλάβουμε, επίσης, ορισμένες μορφές της γλώσσας του παρελθόντος. Αυτή είναι η ευκαιρία που μας παρουσιάζουν τα Ρωμέικα."

Μελέτες της γραμματικής της διαλέκτου δείχνουν ότι συμμερίζεται  ορισμένες αναπάντεχες ομοιότητες με την "Κοινή" Ελληνική των ελληνιστικών και ρωμαϊκών χρόνων, η οποία ομιλούνταν στο ζενίθ της ελληνικής επιρροής σε ολόκληρη τη Μικρά Ασία από τον 4ο αιώνα π.Χ. έως τον 4ο μ.Χ. αιώνα.

Η νέα Ελληνική γλώσσα, εν τω μεταξύ, έχει υποστεί σημαντικές αλλαγές σε σχέση με από την αρχαία αντίστοιχή της, και πιστεύεται ότι προήλθε από τη μεταγενέστερη μεσαιωνική ελληνική που ομιλούνταν μεταξύ του 7ου και 13ου αιώνα μ.Χ. - η αποκαλούμενη βυζαντινή ελληνική.

Η μελλοντική έρευνα θα προσπαθήσει να αξιολογήσει πώς εξελίχθηκε η ποντιακή ελληνική των ακτών της Μαύρης Θάλασσας με την πάροδο των αιώνων. "Γνωρίζουμε ότι η ελληνική ομιλούνταν συνεχώς στον Πόντο από τους αρχαίους χρόνους και μπορούμε να υποθέσουμε ότι η γεωγραφική απομόνωση της από τον υπόλοιπο ελληνικά ομιλούντα κόσμο είναι ένας σημαντικός παράγοντας για το πώς εξελίχθηκε η γλώσσα όπως είναι σήμερα," είπε η Δρ Σιταρίδου. "Αυτό που δεν γνωρίζουμε ακόμη είναι αν τα Ρωμέικα προέκυψαν με τον ίδιο ακριβώς τρόπο που προέκυψαν και άλλες ελληνικές διάλεκτοι, ή αν αργότερα ανέπτυξε δικά της μοναδικά χαρακτηριστικά τα οποία απλώς τυχαίνει να μοιάζουν με τα αρχαία ελληνικά."

Πολλές από τις γλώσσες του κόσμου εξαφανίζονται καθώς οι κάποτε απομονωμένοι πληθυσμοί γίνονται μέρος της παγκόσμιας οικονομίας, με τα παιδιά να μη μαθαίνουν τη γλώσσα των παππούδων τους και αντ' αυτού να χρησιμοποιούν την κυρίαρχη γλώσσα της πλειονότητας του πληθυσμού, η οποία σε αυτό το μέρος του κόσμου είναι η τουρκική.

Στον Πόντο, έχουμε τις τέλειες σχεδόν πειραματικές συνθήκες για να εκτιμήσουμε τι μπορεί να αποκτηθεί και τι μπορεί να χαθεί ως αποτέλεσμα της γλωσσικής επαφής", ολοκλήρωσε η Δρ Σιταρίδου.
